Stay Safe
England are playing tomorrow night at 9pm. For many people, that means watching the match with friends, family, and a few drinks.
Unfortunately, for others, it can be a time of fear and anxiety.
It is well documented that during major football tournaments, incidents of domestic abuse can rise significantly. Some studies have found increases of around 26% when the home team wins and 34% when they lose. Alcohol consumption can further increase the risk.
If you are in a relationship where domestic abuse occurs, or you live with someone who has the potential to become violent, please reach out to someone you trust. Talk to a friend, family member, neighbour, colleague, or support service. You do not have to face it alone.
If you think a friend, family member, neighbour, or loved one may be at risk, please check in on them. A simple message, phone call, or offer of support could make all the difference.
Enjoy the football, celebrate responsibly, and remember: no result on a pitch is ever an excuse for violence at home.
